Instructions

On June 6, 2007 we will be doing a significant update to our email servers.  Most changes will not affect end users.  In fact most people won’t even notice a difference.  Those that do will mainly see a difference in the Web Mail interface and how you change email spam and virus settings.

What are we doing?

We are changing to a new Linux based email server.  This allows us more flexibility in how we handle email and other account services.  Some of the extra services you have asked us for in the past we weren’t able to do.  The new architecture will let us offer you more in the future.  You will see additional account features and services available over the next year now that we have the capability.

What happens during the switch over?

On June 6 we will be switching everyone over to the new email servers (some of you are there already).  The switch itself is fast.  For each user there is a few seconds when emails are being transferred between systems but other than that there will be no noticeable lag in getting emails.  We will keep portions of the old system operating incase there are any issues.

What’s changing now?

NOT your email address.  NOT where you go to check email.  The stuff you need to stay doesn’t change.  If you use Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or other email program that runs on your computer the interface and all other functions will remain the same.  There will be no change in how you get, read, send, and store your email.

Web Mail.  While location you go to check Web Mail (web messaging) doesn’t change from mail.web-ster.com the interface will.  One issue is that address books stored on the old Web Mail server are not compatible with the new system.  The new Web Mail will have any messages you have kept, but will not the addresses saved separately from mail.

Spam/Virus email filtering.  One improvement made possible by the new system is integrating different functions into the same login.  Previously you had to log into a separate account to access your spam/virus email filtering.  Now your settings are in the same place as Web Mail.  We hope to integrate more of your account features into a single place and login in the future.

What is Next?

The new server gives us more flexibility on how to handle internet account features.  We are evaluating what additional features to implement over the next year.  Your comments and suggestions are welcome.  Please contact us at support.web-ster.com
