What is Web-ster Dial-Up?

With Web-ster Dial-Up service, your computer uses a modem to make a connection to the Internet via your telephone line.

How fast will my dial-up connection be?

The speed of your dial-up connection can vary, depending on the quality of your phone line and the distance from your house to the Central Office. Generally, you will see speeds in the area of 48kbps to 53kbps.

Why doesn’t dial-up service ever connect at 56 kbps?

The FCC restricts the connection speed of a dial-up modem to 54 kbps.

Where is Web-ster Dial-Up available?

Web-ster Dial-Up service is available anywhere in the Portland-Metro area.

Can I use Web-ster Dial-Up from outside of Oregon?

Web-ster is a local (Portland-Metro area) Internet Service Provider. National calling numbers are not available.

Will I get charged more for using a dial-up connection more often?

No. When you sign up for Web-ster Dial-Up Internet Access, you receive unmetered access to the Internet.

Your Web-ster Dial-Up account can be configured and ready to go by the next business day.

Does anyone have to visit my house to activate my Web-ster Dial-up account?

No. Your Web-ster Dial-Up connection is set up at our Central Office by our skilled technicians. All you have to do is install the Web-ster Internet software, and you're ready to go online!

I have two phone lines and two computers. Can they be dialed up to Web-ster at the same time?

Yes. With the purchase of a multi-logon dial-up account, you can connect both your computers to the Internet simultaneously--provided you have a separate telephone line for each computer.
