Some of the pictures or links on my Web page don't work. Why?
When a link or image doesn't work, the reason usually has something to do with the way file names are referenced in the Web page's source code. Most Web servers are case sensitive, which means that the server differentiates between capital and lowercase letters.
For example, say you upload an image called MyPicture.jpg. On your Web page, if you refer to this picture as mypicture.jpg, the image won't display. This is because the server is looking for mypicture.jpg, rather than MyPicture.jpg. If you pay attention to case sensitivity in your filenames, you will avoid this sort of problem.
What does Error 404 mean?
Error 404 means that the file you requested was not found by the server. The most common reasons for this message are that the address for the Web page was typed incorrectly, or that the file doesn't exist. Another cause could be an address that was typed with improper or inconsistent case sensitivity. (For more information about case sensitivity, see the answer to Some of the pictures or links on my Web page don't work. Why?, above.)
What default document name should I use for my home page?
When a visitor browses for a Web site without requesting a specific file or page by name, index.html is very often the file that the visitor's Web browser displays by default. For this reason, we recommend that you use index.html as the default document name for your home page.
For example, if a visitor browses to the site http://www.web-ster.com/, the server displays the filehttp://www.web-ster.com/index.html.
Note: Default document names are case sensitive. If you name your default page Index.html, and a visitor looking for your page doesn't know the I is capitalized, the browser will return an error message.
Here is a list of alternative default document names:
- index.htm
- default.html
- default.htm
- welcome.htm
- welcome.html
- index.php
- default.php

What is a domain name?
A domain name represents the physical address for a specific host or computer on the Internet.
Domain names are used to help people remember the computer's location on the Internet, since actual Internet Protocol (IP) addresses are a long string of numbers. For example, the IP address of www.web-ster.com is 65.182.224.36.
How do I get a domain name?
If you would like Web-ster to handle the domain name registration process for you, please contact one of our Internet Support technicians at 503.266.8111.
If you would like to handle the domain name registration process yourself, choose a registrar from the InterNIC list of accredited registrars. You will need to provide the registrar with Web-ster's primary and secondary DNS servers, as shown on the Web-ster technical specifications page. To complete the registration process and get your name set up on our system, contact Web-ster Internet Support.
