Dial-Up
Windows 9x
This article includes instructions for configuring a manual dial-up connection in Windows 95/98.
- Double-click the My Computer icon.
- Double-click the Dial-up Networking icon.

Right-click the Web-ster Internet connection.
NOTE: If the Web-ster Internet connection is not displayed in the list, then double-click the Make New Connection icon and follow the steps in the wizard to create a connection. - From the drop-down menu, click Properties.
- Make sure that the area code is blank.

Make sure that the phone number is correct for your area. (Check area number at the bottom of this page.)
NOTE: You do not have to put the dashes in the phone number. When the computer actually dials the phone number, it removes the dashes. -
Under the phone number and country code, uncheck the box next to Use area code and dialing properties.
NOTE: Depending on your version of Windows, the checkbox mentioned above may say “Use area code and country code.” -
Click the Server Types tab.
- Check the boxes next to Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP. All other checkboxes on the Server Types tab should be unchecked.

Click the TCP/IP Settings button.
- Make sure the Server Assigned IP Address is selected.
- Make sure the Server Assigned Name Server Addresses is selected.
- Check the box next to Use IP Header Compression.
- Check the box next to Use default gateway on remote network.
- Click the OK button.
- Click the OK button again.
- Close all open windows.
- Double-click the Web-ster Internet or Internet Explorer icon.
- In the Dial-up connection window, make sure your username and password are filled in correctly.
- Click the Connect button.
- Congratulations! Windows 95/98 should now be dialed into Web-ster Internet.
