Windows 9x

This article includes instructions for configuring a manual dial-up connection in Windows 95/98.

  1. Double-click the My Computer icon.
  2. Double-click the Dial-up Networking icon.
  3. Right-click the Web-ster Internet connection.

NOTE: If the Web-ster Internet connection is not displayed in the list, then double-click the Make New Connection icon and follow the steps in the wizard to create a connection.
  4. From the drop-down menu, click Properties.
  5. Make sure that the area code is blank.
  6. Make sure that the phone number is correct for your area. (Check area number at the bottom of this page.)

    NOTE:
Depending on your version of Windows, the checkbox mentioned above may say “Use area code and country code.”
  8. Click the Server Types tab.
  9. Check the boxes next to Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP. All other checkboxes on the Server Types tab should be unchecked.
  10. Click the TCP/IP Settings button.
  11. Make sure the Server Assigned IP Address is selected.
  12. Make sure the Server Assigned Name Server Addresses is selected.
  13. Check the box next to Use IP Header Compression.
  14. Check the box next to Use default gateway on remote network.
  15. Click the OK button.
  16. Click the OK button again.
  17. Close all open windows.
  18. Double-click the Web-ster Internet or Internet Explorer icon.
  19. In the Dial-up connection window, make sure your username and password are filled in correctly.
  20. Click the Connect button.
  21. Congratulations! Windows 95/98 should now be dialed into Web-ster Internet.
