Before You Start

  1. Place the DSL modem in a location that is open to prevent overheating. Please do not place items on top of the modem.
  2. Make sure the power source is within 6 feet of the modem. It is recommended that you plug the modem's power source into a surge protector.
  3. The telephone cable must not exceed 12 feet from the modem to your wall jack.

Step 1 - Install the Microfilter

  1. Turn off your computer.
  2. Plug the microfilter into each phone jack in your residence or business. You may plug your telephone line into the port labeled "Phone" on the microfilter.

Step 2 - Connect Hardware

Step A

Plug the electrical adapter from the wall outlet or surge protector to the modem. The "Power" light on the front of the DSL modem should turn on.

Step B

Find the port on your computer that the Ethernet cable plugs into. Connect the Ethernet cable from the computer to the port labeled "ENET" on the modem.

Step C

Connect the cable from the microfilter in the phone jack to the port labeled "Wall" on the modem.

Turn on the modem then turn on your computer. Check the modem. The WAN, LAN, and Power lights should all be illuminated - if not, try troubleshooting.

Step 3 - Verify DSL Connection

After you have checked the modem for installation and your computer is turned on, please click Start and follow steps A through D.

Step A

Click on Run.

Step B

Type Command and press enter.

Step C

You will see a flashing curser in the MS prompt window.
If you are a Windows ME, Widows 2000, or Windows XP user, please type ipconfig /renewand press enter.

If you are a Windows 98 user, please type ipconfig /renew_all and press enter.

Step D

If Web-ster DSL is ready to be installed, you will see an IP address with a series of numbers starting with "65.........."*

If the IP number begins with "169......" Your computer has not received an IP address from Web-ster. Please complete steps 1 through 3 again and check that the modem's "ENET" light displays a solid light.

If your computer displays the correct IP address youmay proceed with installation of the Web-ster software.
