Single Computer

Before You Start

  1. To prevent overheating, place the DSL modem in an open location. Please do not place items on top of the modem.
  2. Make sure the power source is within 6 feet of the modem. It is recommended that you plug the modem's power source into a surge protector.
  3. The telephone cable must not exceed 12 feet from the modem to your wall jack.

Step 1: Install the Microfilter

  1. Turn off your computer.
  2. Plug the microfilter into each phone jack in your residence or business. You may plug your telephone line into the port labeled "Phone" on the microfilter.

Step 2: Connect Hardware

Step A
Plug the electrical adapter from the wall outlet or surge protector into the modem. Flip the toggle switch on the back of the modem to On. The Power light on the front of the DSL modem should turn on.

Step B
Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the correct port on your computer. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable into the port labeled LAN on the modem.

Step C
Connect the cable from the microfilter in the phone jack to the port labeled ADSL on the modem.

Turn on the modem and then turn on your computer. Check the modem: All three lights should illuminate. If all three lights are not illuminated, see troubleshooting.

Step 3: Verify DSL Connection

Verify that the modem is correctly installed, and then turn on your computer. On your Windows Desktop, click the Start button and then follow steps A through D, below.

Step A
Click Run.

Step B
In the Open: field, type the word command and then click OK.

Step C
A flashing cursor appears in the MS prompt window.
If you are a Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP user, please type IPconfig/ renew and then press Enter.
If you are a Windows 98 user, please type ipconfig/ renew_all and then press Enter.

Step D
If Web-ster DSL is ready to be installed, you will see an IP address with a series of numbers such as following: 65.xxx.xxx.xxx.
If the IP number begins with 169.xxx..., your computer has not received an IP address from Web-ster. Please complete steps 1 through 3 (above) again and then check that the modem's ENET light is solidly lit.
If your computer displays the correct IP address, you may proceed with installation of the Web-ster software.
