Virtual Drive

Use

Starting the Virtual Drive:

Virtual Drive System Tray Icon

Open the Drive manager in the Start Menu. If there is a Virtual Drive icon, like the one to the left, in the system tray you can open the manager from there.

Virtual Drive Manager

In the Drive Manager click on the Connectbutton. If the button says Disconnect the drive is already connected.

If you have Reconnect at logon checked you do not need to do this step as it will be automatically done when you start your computer. This is not recommended if you are using a shared or public computer as it may allow others to access your files.

Using the Drive

The Virtual Drive appears on Windows Explorer or any other Windows software that shows drives connected to your computer.

An important feature of Web-ster Virtual Drive is that you can use it in any Windows function. You can:

  • Open and edit word document files
  • Edit photos
  • Play videos
  • Or any other action you could do on your local drives.

Virtual Drive in Explorer

The Virtual drive shows up as a normal drive on your computer.

Accessing Your Virtual Drive From Another Computer

As a drive

You can install the Virtual Drive software on any Windows computer. Other types of computers can access the drive as a FTP site. Just download the install software and follow the Installation Instructions.

Caution: saving your user/password or having the Drive Management software automatically logon when using public computer may make your files accessible to others.

As a FTP site

You can transfer files to and from your storage using standard FTP transfer. Use the address storage.web-ster.com and your account user name and password. This will work with any computer that can access FTP sites (note: also supports the Sftp standard used on Apple and Linux systems).

As a Web page

You can transfers files in and out of your storage and manage files on any system with a web browser and Internet access. Go tohttp://virtual.web-ster.com/. See instructions below.

File Backup

Files stored on your Virtual Drive are stored on a server outside your home or office. This makes it useful for storing copies of important files that you do not want to lose if your computer fails. Just copy files to your Virtual Drive. Canby Telcom does offer other backup products that feature automatic, encrypted backup services for files that need better reliability and security.
